Gerald Thiele

Gerald transferred into the Champaign-Urbana area 17 years ago as the result of a job transfer with Zeneca Ag Products. He retired in 2000 and started a real estate career doing appraisal work. The low interest rates and strong demand for refinancing resulted in the completion of over 900 appraisal assignments in Champaign-Urbana and the surrounding counties. This volume of appraisal work provided excellent experience in the local Real Estate markets. In December 2003, he completed the requirements for the salesperson license and joined the Champaign County Association of Realtors.
Gerald grew up on a dairy and dry land farm located in the Northwest corner of Kansas 8 miles west of Norton. He was active in 4-H and FFA with beef, swine, gardening and wheat projects.
He attended Kansas State University where he enrolled in ROTC and majored in crop and soil science. He continued his education at Colorado State University in weed science. After completing the course and research requirements for a Master of Science degree, he fulfilled the ROTC active duty requirements by serving six months at Fort Lee, Virginia and then 18 months at Fort Bragg, North Carolina (Home of the Airborne!) as a 1st Lieutenant in a parachute repair company in the Quartermaster Corp.
Upon completion of active duty, he accepted a position with Stauffer Chemical Company in research and development in Mt. View, California screening compounds for potential agricultural pesticides. While in California, Gerald completed an Associates Degree in Business Administration at DeAnza College in Cupertino, California. He continued his career by helping start and build a field research facility at Lisbon, Iowa. That facility was eventually sold and he moved to Champaign, Illinois to work at a research farm south of Bondville, Illinois under various company names. He eventually retired and has since pursued a career in real estate.
Gerald's wife, Linda, has been working for the Champaign Unit 4 School District as a Teacher's Aide for the last ten years. His son is employed with Honda Research and Development and lives in Marysville, Ohio along with his wife and two sons. He has a daughter pursuing a master's degree in education while teaching seventh grade in Brooklyn, New York; and a daughter pursuing a master's degree in Information Technology at the University of Maryland.
